PFF proposes Aaron Rodgers, Jordan Love trades
Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers Benny Sieu-USA TODAY Sports

The Green Bay Packers are going to have quite the offseason ahead of them. Whether it starts at the end of the regular season or after/during the playoffs, there are going to be questions surrounding the quarterback position in 2023 and beyond.

Earlier, I wrote an article on everything Packers fans need to know about the contracts of Jordan Love and Aaron Rodgers. To put it plainly, it will be very difficult to keep both of them after 2023. Additionally, there is a rumor that Love will request a trade away from the Packers if Rodgers returns next season.

With so many questions about the future, it is to be expected that there will be trade proposals presented by a variety of media outlets. It has happened in the previous two seasons, so why not now? Pro Football Focus got the ball rolling with two interesting trade proposals.

Aaron Rodgers Trade Proposal with the New York Jets

Tell me if you’ve heard this one before: Packers trade a future Hall of Fame quarterback to the New York Jets so his replacement can take over after sitting for three years. Of course, that is what happened when Brett Favre was traded to the Jets to clear the way for Rodgers. Could the Packers make a similar trade now?

PFF seems to think they could and that the Jets would be an ideal candidate. In return, the Packers would receive first- and second-round picks in 2023 and 2024. Of course, this trade would have to be completed after June 1 to prevent the Packers from taking a $99 million dead cap hit. If they decide to trade him after June 1, his dead cap hit lowers to around $40 million.

Before anyone asks: No, the Jets cannot take on any of that dead cap figure. The dead cap is money that players have already been paid. It was just in the form of bonuses to prevent the money from being counted on previous caps.

Jordan Love Trade Proposal with Washington Commanders

If the Packers choose not to trade Rodgers and Love wants out, Green Bay could open place the youngster on the trading block. One team that is young and has a ton of talent is the Washington Commanders. However, they lack a quarterback who can be a consistent threat in the passing game. Perhaps what Love showed against Washington division rival, the Philadelphia Eagles, would be enough to convince the Commanders that Love is their guy.

In return for the former first-round pick, the Packers would receive a second- and fifth-round pick from the Commanders in the 2023 NFL Draft. Of course, a Love trade could create all sorts of questions in Green Bay. There is no other reliable backup, so whom would the Packers get? Would they draft a new quarterback this year or next year? In what round? Will that player get along with Rodgers (a stupid question, but it will be asked)?

Buckle up, Packers fans. When the offseason hits, it’s going to be a wild ride.
